Weatherman was wrong again!
I loaded up my kayak on Tuesday night. My plan was to get out on Lincoln lake by 4am to watch the meteor shower.
Weather man had said skies would be clear and to find a dark location. So I thought, why not the middle of the lake.
My alarm went off at 3:30am…. that’s the middle of the night. I looked out my window and was disappointed that the stars were not out so I hit the snooze. I finally got up at 4am. I decided to go to the lake anyway. With the unexpected cloud cover, I would not get to witness the meteor shower, but I love being on the lake early. Its quiet and you can usually see allot of wildlife and the fishing is better.
I got on the lake at 4:30am. Boy was it dark with the cloudy skies. I did some fishing in the dark. Re-rigging my pole was a challenge in the dark. I am so glad I remembered a light. I only caught a couple small pan fish.
Of course, the clouds starting clearing as soon as the sun started to come up. I guess, I wasn’t meant to view the meteor shower this year.
The lake in the predawn hours is so quiet. I was the only boat on the lake. I startled some geese, that wasn’t so quiet. Then I saw a whole herd of deer. One very large buck with BIG antlers. They saw me too unfortunately. They did not run off, just went into the tree line, watching me, watching them. I guess I never realized that deer can sound like cows. You should have heard them snorting and what sounded like mooing.
I also, snuck up on a heron. I got unbelievably close. Even caught some awesome shots with my camera. Unfortunately my camera doesn’t do so good in low light, so I had to try and add light after the fact. It was really cool to get so close though.
Even though I didn’t see the meteor shower, I had an awesome morning just paddling around Lincoln Lake. Finally, got off the lake about 9:30am. Got myself a decent workout, and thoroughly enjoyed the quiet time.
