Danish Festival 2009
The Danish Festival in Greenville, Michigan is a wonderful family festival celebrating Greenville’s Danish history. This festival was jam packed with fun family activities. Hot-air balloon launches, a huge parade, entertainment, and lots of free children’s activities. It is really amazing how many free children’s activities there were.
My favorite is the hot-air balloons. Unfortunately, the Saturday evening launch and the Greenville Glows events were cancelled due to weather conditions this year. You can see the pictures from last years Greenville Glows on our website. www.SheTookMyPicture.com Just go to “past events”. I did get some pictures of the launch on Sunday at
7AM. The balloons are so beautiful. Someday, I hope to take a flight.
Saturday’s parade was huge. The weather was pleasant, not as hot as previous years. I really enjoyed watching the bands. The Greenville Schools bands hold a special place in my heart because my daughter played from 7th grade through her senior year in high school.
Mrs. Gould and Mr. Ayers, the band directors, are wonderful. the parade was full of cool floats, old cars, clowns, etc. Saturday was also chuck full of children’s activities like face painting, coloring contest, blow up toys to play on, etc. Its really is amazing how many free things there were for the kids. On center stage there were many wonderful performances including “Cover Story” and “The Scottville Marching Clown Band”. The Clown Band was the favorite. The crowd was huge.
Sunday was Family Fun Day at the Community Center. Again, lots of free things for the kids. Camel ride, elephant rides, pony rides, jump rope contest, sack races and more. That place
was hopping with kids having fun.
If you haven’t been to Greenville’s Danish Festival, I would recommend putting it on your calendar for next year. Remember, third weekend of August. See you there.
